The use of Fedora at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) takes place in the context of the project suite "XML Web Services and the 3-tier architecture" within the programme area System Architecture of Denmark's Electronic Research Library (DEFF).
The XML Web Services project suite
The overall vision is that XML Web Services will enable DEFF to develop its services further and cheaper, and that they will become easier to exploit in a flexible way across the many portals and actors of the DEFF landscape.
One of the projects in the 2004 project suite was a pilot project, DEF-XWS Eprints, which used Fedora version 1.2 to implement a web service version of DEF Eprints, which offers international eprints harvested from Open Archives. The implementation includes the ZebraForFedora module for the use of Zebra for indexing and search.
In 2005, the project suite will contribute to the further development of Fedora in order to ensure the applicability of the system as generic repository architecture for DEFF. Among the activities are:
The project suite is carried out by the Center for Knowledge Technology (CVT) within the Technical Knowledge Center of Denmark (DTV) within DTU, in a collaboration with The Royal Library and The State and University Library.
