Working Groups

We expect to do much of the work in the future, both in coordinating the development of specifications and software, through a set of developers' working groups. We have three active groups that are described below.

  • Preservation Services - Chair: Ron Jantz (Rutgers University)
This group is charged with developing a general definition of preservation services for the Fedora service framework. They are expected to recommend enhancements to the Fedora repository service as well as to develop preservation-specific specifications for new services in the framework.

  • Search Services - Chair: Gert Pedersen (Danish Technical University)
The primary goal of this group is to develop a search service, which allows various indexing-and-search engines to be configured or plugged in. This service would be able to retrieve data from arbitrary datastreams in objects within a repository to be indexed.

  • Workflow Services - Chair: Peter Murray (OhioLINK)
The main purpose of this group is to define common activities associated with the ingestion of objects through a variety of use cases and implement a set of services for Fedora that encompasses as broad of coverage of the use cases as possible.
